Low Line Commons wins 'Future Public Realm'

Up against some very strong competition, the Low Line Commons was announced as the winner in the ‘Future Public Realm’ category at the Pineapple Awards.

The Low Line Commons reimagines a stretch of Victorian railway viaduct as a green seam - meandering through Bankside, London Bridge and Bermondsey - that creatively tackles environmental, economic and social challenges head-on.

Commissioned by the Low Line Partners (Better Bankside, Team London Bridge, Blue Bermondsey, Southwark Council and The Arch Company), it aims to increase environmental resilience by promoting innovative greening and sustainability initiatives that mitigate climate change, whilst celebrating the diversity and heritage of each neighbourhood it passes through.

Riffing on the New York High Line, the Low Line celebrates the legacy of London’s Victorian railway arches. It connects diverse neighbourhoods and communities, offers a green network and links existing and new hubs of creativity, entertainment, and industry along its course.

The judges commended the project as a “blueprint for sensitive regeneration” at the awards ceremony held at The Department Store in Brixton earlier this week.

Working collaboratively with Studio 4215, Greengage and Macfarlane + Associates, a toolkit solution of 12 components has been designed to be used to provide the best response to each unique neighbourhood. Click here to read more about the toolkit approach.

Well done to everyone involved!
