Seven x Seven Itoshima

Contemporary Japanese luxury hotel

Concept design for a new flagship hotel for the Seven x Seven brand of contemporary luxury hotels in Japan, incorporating the facade, interior common areas and typical rooms. Here, a chic, minimal interior design style complements the contemporary laid-back aesthetic of the facade.

Situated on one of the most popular beaches in Fukuoka on the northern coast of Kyushu, the building comprises two wings with a total of 47 ocean view rooms. The design concept was to emphasise the natural beauty of the location and provide an elevated and luxurious hotel experience for the modern traveller, in line with Seven x Seven’s brand values. Organised around a central space combining entrance, guest services and dining, this airy double-height space offers views to the sea upon arrival, with guest rooms splaying out on either side.

Generous terraces run the width of each floor plate, providing guests with an expansive outdoor space from which to enjoy the scenery. The terraces function as extensions of the interior spaces for resort-style indoor-outdoor living, with a mix of open and outdoor bathing facilities for standard rooms and jacuzzis for the suites. Full width glazing provides ample views of the ocean, sliding neatly into the walls to enhance the flow between spaces.

Interior spaces are characterised by a material palette of natural materials in warm neutral tones.
