Archiboo Awards shortlisting

Our film celebrating Regent’s Crescent has been shortlisted for the Archiboo awards in the 'Best use of video' category.

The intention of this film was to celebrate the completion of a project that has been ten years in the making for our practice, conveying our passion for architectural heritage and context. We wanted to highlight the care, dedication and expertise of the individual architects behind the rebuilding of this complex one-of-a-kind development, as well as showcasing the building itself and its important place in Regency London.

The project saw the sweeping Grade I listed Regent’s Crescent, originally designed by John Nash, rebuilt and thoroughly modernised to provide luxury residences and amenities in the heart of London.

A complex project, Regent’s Crescent comprises sixty eight new apartments and nine contemporary Garden Villas to the rear, as well as seeing two 1960s blocks retrofitted and upgraded behind the iconic crescent building. Due to bomb damage sustained during WWII, retaining the original Grade I listed facade was not viable, so following extensive consultation and research, it was demolished and rebuilt, notably the first ever reconstruction of a Grade I listed façade.

The film takes the viewer on a journey, starting with understanding the heritage and history (particularly in relation to the incredible facade), moving on to explain the hierarchy of spaces and the transition from heritage to new build as you move through the building. This medium has also been a great way to explain the complexity of the rear facade and its relationship to both the wider context and the existing building.

More than simply a building showcase, this film (we hope) captures the soul of this reinstated icon, whilst celebrating the craft of all involved and acknowledging how priviledged we feel to have been able to work on it.
