The People's Pavilion - Exhibition and crowdfunding
‘The Reverie’ wins the People’s Pavilion design competition. How can you help to see the design realised?
Congratulations to Samira Elbahja, Delilah Jamal and Shariyar Ahmed for winning the People’s Pavilion design competition with their entry, ‘The Reverie’. We are so very proud to have been able to support this brilliant young team of aspiring designers and cannot wait to visit their pavilion when it is built at Here East.
This is what the students had to say about their design:
‘Imagine…
You have had a long day at work; you just need to get from one location to another. But you’re exhausted, and your phone is blowing up with emails. You just want a pause, a pause from your busy life. When all of a sudden you realise a beautiful Pavilion in the distance, ‘The Reverie’. You notice it from a mile away with its tree like structures acting as pillars, and its planters mirroring the forest. You take a seat in one of our swinging chairs, slowly swaying back and forth in the gentle wind. You forget about all your worries, and in that moment you take a pause. You are in complete peace.’
The project, run by Beyond the Box Consultants, tested a new approach to co-design with young people, engaging them in placemaking and cultural programming. To date, the People’s Pavilion has engaged with over 150 young East Londoners since launching in the middle of the pandemic in 2020.
Now they need help to fundraise for the construction of the winning Pavilion design, which will take the form of a temporary structure built at Here East in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
